Field Operations Division
The Field Operations
Division is commanded by a Lieutenant and supervised by four
Sergeants. The majority of the sworn officers in the
Department are assigned to this Division. Assignments
within the Division include patrol officer, K-9 handler, Motor
Officer, Field Training Officer, and Special Problem Oriented Teams.
At the core of the Field Operations Division
is the Patrol Unit which is the largest and most visible
component. It provides 24 hour police services to
our community.
Officers within the division generally work in uniform and drive
“marked” (black and white) police cars.
The
purpose of the Patrol Unit is to provide “first response”
to requests for police services and to reduce crime, the fear of
crime, circumstances that foster criminal activity and other
conditions that adversely impact
public safety. It is the responsibility of the patrol
officer to respond to all calls for service no matter the
severity or nature. Once an officer has arrived, he or she will
determine the appropriate course of action.
The
members of the Selma Police Department, are committed to being
responsive to our community in the delivery of quality services.
We recognize our responsibility to maintain order, while
affording di gnity
and respect to every individual. Our objective is to
improve the quality of life through community partnership which
promotes safe, secure neighborhoods throughout the City of
Selma.
The department follows the philosophy of Community Oriented
Policing and Problem Solving. This creates a team approach to solving community
problems.
