Aquatics

The Aquatics Division provides recreational swimming, swim lessons and pool rentals.  The department uses the Selma High School pool during the summer.   Also, a wading pool at the Salazar Park is free of charge and open Monday-Wednesday-Friday for youth.

13 years and older  $1.50

Must be under 4 1/2 feet in height

SWIM LESSON CLASS LEVELS

WATER BABIES

Open to children 6 months to 3 years of age.  Must be of age before December 31, 2006. Adult must be at least 18 years of age or older and must take charge of child in the pool.  Only one child per adult is allowed in the pool.  Class size is minimum 10, maximum 20.

TINY TOTS

Generally for children 2 to  3 years of age.  This class acquaints the children with water and promotes confidence while in the water.  Class size is minimum 3, maximum 5.

TINY TOTS II

Generally for children 3 to 4 years of age.  This class teaches children to be independent and overcome their fear of the water.  Class size is minimum 3,maximum 5.

GUPPIES

For children 5 years and younger. Children are taught to float, hold their breath and basic arm and leg kicks. Class size is minimum 3, maximum 5.

TINY BEGINNERS

For children 6 years and younger.  Class skills taught are breathing, prone float, prone glide and back float.  To pass, must propel self 12 feet from edge of pool and return.  Class size is minimum 4,maximum 8.

BEGINNERS

For children 6 years and older.  Enrolled younger with permission of instructor.  Learn basic arm and leg strokes and movement.  Class size is minimum 4, maximum 8.

ADVANCED BEGINNERS

For children that have passed the Beginners course.  Class size is minimum 4, maximum 8.

INTERMEDIATE

Must have passed Advanced Beginner course.  Class size is minimum 5,maximum 10.

SWIMMER

Must have passed Intermediate course.  Class size is minimum 5, maximum 10.

ADVANCED SWIMMER

Must have passed Swimmer course.  Class size is minimum 5, maximum 10.

Please Note:  All Swim Lesson classes have a minimum and maximum number of students for each level of instruction.  If minimum class sign-ups are not meet you may be asked to pick     another class time in order to provide the appropriate level of instruction to the participant.  Classes will also fill up and once the maximum number of students has been meet the class will be considered closed. 

      Swim Lesson registration will be conducted throughout the summer at the Selma High   School pool on weekdays between 9:00a.m. and 11:00am. **No Afternoon Registrations Accepted** Adult and specialty classes are offered based on the ability to provide qualified instructors and registrations.

10:10-10:40 am Guppies– Intermediate

10:45-11:15 am Tiny Beginners– Swimmer

11:20-11:50 am Beginners– Advanced Swimmer

 EVENINGS

(Fee: $30 per class)

7:00-7:30 pm Tiny Tots– Advanced Swimmer

7:30-8:00 pm Tiny Tots– Advanced Swimmer

* Classes meet Monday-Friday for 2 weeks

 WATER BABIES

(Fee: $35 per session)

*Class meets Monday/Wednesday/Friday 

**Make-up lessons will be conducted for classes cancelled due to swim meets or           holiday pool closures.**

JR. LIFEGUARD

The Jr. Lifeguard Program introduces participants ages 12-15 years of age to the responsibilities of a lifeguard and water safety skills. This program teaches participants lifeguard rescue procedures and water safety knowledge that will prepare them for the lifeguard certification process and future employment opportunities. For more information contact the Recreation Department.

POOL RENTALS

During the summer swim program, pools may be rented through the Recreation and Community Services Department.  The High School pool is available for rental on Saturdays from 5:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 10:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.
