Introduction
The Zoning Ordinance is a crucial section of the Selma Municipal Code that regulates land development and use within the City. Selma is divided into various zones, such as residential, commercial, industrial, and public open spaces. The Zoning Ordinance specifies each zone's permitted uses and development standards, addressing key aspects like allowed uses, minimum lot size, setback requirements, building height, lot coverage, parking, landscaping, fencing, and signage.

In 2021, the City of Selma, in collaboration with Rincon Consultants, initiated a comprehensive update of the Zoning Ordinance to address inconsistencies and necessary revisions identified over the years. The current ordinance, comprising 35 unique chapters, has seen numerous additions, revisoins, and replacements since its original codification in 1963. Despite these changes, a comprehensive update has not been undertaken until now.

Throughout the update process, the City has actively sought public input through various opportunities, including an initial public workshop in October 2021 and a joint Planning Commission/City Council workshop on March 26, 2024. These sessions provided valuable insights and addressed any questions or concerns regarding the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance Update.

Explore the updated ordinance and learn how it enhances land development and use within Selma, supporting sustainable growth and community well-being.
