Firefighter Chris Nelson Memorial

     Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Nelson joined the Selma Fire Department in October of 2006. On February 8th, 2014, Chris suffered a life-altering injury where he was paralyzed as a result of an incident that occurred while training on duty. Exactly 10 years to the date of injury, Chris passed away with his family and closest friends by his side. Chris and his family fought hard through the challenges of adapting to their new lives and endured a tremendous loss. As a firefighter and paramedic, Chris made a significant impact not only in Selma but also in all surrounding communities.

     Chris will be honored and have his name placed on the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Wall in Colorado Springs later this year. To ensure that his family is able to attend at no personal cost, the Selma Firefighters Association and Selma Firefighters Foundation are hosting a Memorial Golf Tournament. This year, funds will ensure their trip is covered and Chris is memorialized appropriately. Moving forward, the tournament will be utilized to fund the Firefighter Chris Nelson Memorial Scholarship through the Selma Firefighters Foundation where aspiring firefighters will receive scholarship opportunities to continue their education.
