Community Partners Unite for Selma’s Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon
As families across Selma prepared for Thanksgiving, a long-standing community tradition once again brought seniors together for a warm and welcoming celebration. For more than fifteen years, the Central Valley Lioness Lions Club has hosted a Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon, and each year SPARCS supports the event by helping coordinate sign-ups, confirm attendance, and organize check-ins for local seniors. This year, 174 seniors enjoyed a holiday meal and time with friends at the Selma Portuguese Hall on Wednesday, November 26.
The luncheon continues to be a strong example of collaboration in Selma. Several community organizations donated funds to help cover the cost of the meal, reflecting a shared commitment to caring for seniors. The Kiwanis Club, Selma Lions Club, Selma Rotary, Selma Women’s Club, Selma Cares, Selma Portuguese Azorean Association, Selma Business Alliance, and American Legion Post 12 all contributed to make the event possible.

Youth volunteers from the Selma Leos added an important layer of support throughout the day. The group helped set up the dining area and plated meals behind the scenes to ensure every senior received their food quickly and easily. The Leos also assisted with preparing meals for delivery to seniors who were unable to attend in person, giving more residents the chance to take part in the Thanksgiving tradition.
The Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon has become one of Selma’s most consistent holiday events, bringing together service clubs, city staff, and young volunteers to support the community. With steady participation from local organizations and longtime partners, the luncheon continues to provide meaningful connection for hundreds of seniors each year and remains a key example of how collaboration strengthens Selma.
