About the Pilot Project
This pilot is part of Selma’s Tactical Urbanism Safe Streets Study, which uses temporary, low-cost traffic calming measures to test ways to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety before making long-term investments.

Why this location?
Mitchell & Nebraska was selected due to its proximity to schools and parks, higher vehicle speeds, and community feedback identifying the intersection as a priority for pedestrian safety improvements.

What was tested
The pilot included:

  • A high-visibility, themed crosswalk to increase pedestrian awareness

  • Botts’ dots to provide tactile and audible feedback for drivers

  • Flexible posts and a hardened centerline to slow turning movements and reduce conflicts near the crosswalk

These elements were designed to calm traffic and create a safer, more comfortable crossing experience.

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey linked on this page. Community feedback plays an important role in shaping future street designs and safety improvements across Selma. Thank you for being part of the conversation and helping move Selma toward safer streets for everyone.
