Selma Welcomes Spring with 2026 Blossom Trail Opening Ceremony


Selma welcomed the start of spring on February 4 as community members and regional leaders gathered at the Selma Arts Center for the 2026 Fresno County Blossom Trail Opening Ceremony. Hosting the ceremony marked Selma's return to hosting the opening event, which it had not held since 2019. The morning marked the start of the Blossom Trail season and highlighted Selma’s long-standing connection to agriculture and its role along the eastern edge of the trail.

The ceremony opened with a presentation of colors by the Selma Fire Department Honor Guard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Selma High School Future Farmers of America President Joaquin Aranda and the national anthem performed by Tonya Smith. Selma District Chamber of Commerce President Nick Sahota welcomed guests and thanked the local partners who helped bring the event together. A short video then highlighted Selma’s section of the Blossom Trail, focusing on the city’s agricultural roots and its legacy as the Raisin Capital of the World.

Mayor Scott Robertson spoke about the meaning of the Blossom Trail for Selma and the region, noting the generations of families and farmworkers whose labor continues to shape Fresno County’s agricultural economy.

Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig served as master of ceremonies and shared the history of the Blossom Trail, which began in 1988 as a way to showcase the Valley’s spring blooms and agricultural strength. Guest speaker Ryan Jacobsen, CEO of the Fresno County Farm Bureau, followed with remarks on Fresno County’s role as the nation’s leading agricultural county and the importance of continuing to recognize the people behind the industry.

The program also highlighted the future of agriculture in Selma through a presentation by Selma High School agriculture advisors Katie Chambers and Grace Mendes, who shared updates on the school’s FFA program, farm improvements, and student-led agricultural projects. The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of the 2026 Fresno County Blossom Trail poster by local artist Amy Morgan and the announcement that next year’s opening ceremony will be held in Orange Cove.

Following the ceremony, guests gathered for a community lunch and social hour featuring food from Selma businesses, including Sal’s Mexican Restaurant, Cho’s Kitchen, Panaderia Vanessa, Asoka Indian Cuisine, Maiden Voyage, and Ma and Pa Kettle Corn.
