CLEAN & CLEAR: April 1 Weed Cleanup Deadline Approaching

The April 1 weed and grass removal deadline is approaching, and the City of Selma is reminding property owners to take care of overgrown weeds, grass, and other combustible vegetation on their property. Under Selma Municipal Code Chapter 9-3-13, these conditions are considered a public nuisance and must be removed and maintained accordingly.

Keeping properties clear helps protect neighborhoods, reduces fire hazards, and keeps Selma looking its best. Property owners are also responsible for maintaining sidewalks, parkways, and adjacent areas clear of vegetation, with continued upkeep required throughout the year as needed.

What Is Required
Property owners are responsible for:
• Removing overgrown weeds and grass from their property
• Maintaining parkways, sidewalks, and adjacent areas clear of vegetation
• Continuing upkeep as needed to prevent regrowth


Important Timeline
🗓 April 1 – Annual weed and grass removal deadline
🗓 14 Days – Compliance period following an official posted notice

Properties must be maintained throughout the year as conditions require.


Enforcement Information
Failure to maintain property as required may result in City abatement. Abatement costs may be assessed against the property and may become a lien. Property owners have the right to appeal a posted notice as outlined in the Municipal Code.
